Social media isn’t just for teenage girls. People from every walk of life spend innumerable hours across social platforms on a daily basis. Because of this, it has become imperative for business to have a strong presence on outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. By the way, today, March 21, 2016 is Twitter’s tenth birthday. So, Happy Birthday, Twitter! Being a business owner myself, I know how long it takes to create posts on each site. My time is valuable, and I’m always looking for ways to make things faster. Fortunately for me, there is a way to make posts created on Facebook post automatically to Twitter and vice versa. I should mention that these techniques will apply to personal accounts as well and not just business pages you’ve created. Let’s get started!

We’ll tackle linking Facebook to Twitter first. First things first, make sure you’re logged out of any Twitter accounts you’ve created or manage. Next, visit http://www.facebook.com/twitter, and log in to your Facebook account. After logging in, you’ll notice your personal Facebook account at the top of the list, followed by pages that you manage with a link to the right of them that says “Link to Twitter”. Click the “Link to Twitter” button to link the desired page. You’ll next be asked to log in to Twitter to connect the two accounts, and will then be asked the specific settings to choose what should be posted automatically. For instance, your Facebook status can be Tweeted automatically, but photos won’t be included, etc. After that, you’re halfway done! A word of caution: after successfully linking one page to Twitter, you must log back out of Twitter before linking another to ensure a successful connection.

Next, let’s connect your Twitter account with a Facebook page. The steps to linking a Twitter account with a personal Facebook account differ slightly. We’ll hit on that next. First, log in to your Twitter account. Click on your profile picture (next to the Tweet button) and click “Settings”, then choose “Apps” from the left menu. Click “Connect to Facebook” at the top right. If you’re not already logged into Facebook, you’ll be asked at this point to sign in. Lastly, under “Facebook Connect”, click the checkbox next to “post to my Facebook page”. If you manage more than one page, click the dropdown arrow to choose the Page you’d like to connect, then click “allow permission” and you’re all set. To connect your personal profile, simply select under “Facebook Connect” the checkboxes for “post retweets to Facebook” and “post to my Facebook profile”. Twitter will ask to access your Facebook timeline and settings. Click “Okay” to confirm.

Social media as a whole can seem daunting. Building followers, coming up with interesting content for posts, and on and on. The good news is you can reach twice the audience by only having to do half the work. One post can truly do it all!
